Impacts of Converting Rangelands to Cultivated Land on Physical and Chemical Properties of Soils in West and Southwest of Isfahan

Journal Articles & Books
January, 2008

Applying of intensive cultivation especially in marginal and sensitive regions, after conversion of rangelands to cropland farms, commonly causes reduction in soil quality, and thus an increase in soil degradation, erosion and runoff. This study was conducted to evaluate the land use change effects on some soil physical and chemical properties such as mean weight diameter (MWD), soil organic matter (SOM), bulk density (BD) and saturated electrical conductivity (ECe).

Modélisation intégrée de l'allocation des terres en France : du choix cultural au choix sectoriel

Journal Articles & Books
December, 2015
France

The research work presented in this doctoral thesis is devoted to the study of land use. The question is examined from two angles: i) land use within the farm (the choice of crops, pastures), and ii) land use between economic sectors (forests, urban, agriculture, etc.). Two methods were employed: mathematical programming models for the agriculture and forestry sectors and econometric methods. The supply-side agricultural model, AROPAj, allows us to model farmers’ decision in terms of crops and nitrogen input quantities.

Outline for Developing Preliminary Geologic Data on the Effect of Mining at Structure Sites

Reports & Research
December, 1967

1967 USDA-SCS Instructions:Staff and Planning Staff specialists concerned with planning watershed impoundment-type structures over or in the vicinity of mined-out areas or potential and active mine areas. We recommend that staff geologists use the Guide for developing geologic data: (1) To interpret structure foundation conditions; and (2) to facilitate establishing minimum limits for mineral rights. It also m y be helpful in preparing A&E contracts and negotiating with selected consultants.

Watching Corn Grow: A Hedonic Study of the Iowa Landscape

Policy Papers & Briefs
December, 2007

Landscape amenities can be scarce in places with large areas of open space. Intensely farmed areas with high levels of monocropping and livestock production are akin to developed open space areas and do not provide many services in terms of landscape amenities. Open space in the form of farmland is plentiful, but parks and their services are in short supply. This issue is of particular importance for public policy because it is closely linked to the impact of externalities caused by agricultural activities and to the indirect effects of land use dynamics.

Changes in land use and their consequences at the Tisza Lake

Journal Articles & Books
August, 2011

A Tisza-tó jelentős változásokat idézett elő a térség életében, módosult a települések térbeli kiterjedése. Ez a fajta térmódosulás a tanulmányban bemutatott ábrákon kiválóan végigkövethető. Sarud, Abádszalók és Tiszafüred esetében egyértelműen megállapítható, hogy a települések térszerkezetének eltolódása a Tisza-tó partján kínálkozó turisztikai lehetőségek hatására következett be.A településkép beépítettségében, új településrészek kialakításában, a település arculatának módosulásában szintén közrejátszott a Tisza-tó léte.

Ireland has a rapidly expanding forest estate which covers some 9/ of the land area. It is government policy to increase this to 17/ by the year 2030. Preliminary studies suggest that forestry activities have the potential to contribute significantly to the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions. Although some studies have been carried out the determination of the carbon stores and sinks in Irish forests will require a considerable research effort in the future.
