The Association of Environmental Lawyers of Liberia (Green Advocates) is Liberia's first and only public interest environmental law organization dedicated to ensuring the protection of the environment, defending human rights, empowering and amplifying the voices of poor people who are victimized in resource exploitationand by using the rule of law to hold state and non state actors accountable for their actions.
The program activities of Green Advocates are conceptualized to amplify environmental protection, a transparent and accountable system of governance in natural resources management to benefit indigenous people who are the custodians of natural resources, the intellectual and cultural rights of rural people, and the link to the protection of the human rights of marginalize people.
Their program focuses on six thematic areas: Democratic decentralization of natural resources management to ensure equal benefit for rural people; Document human rights and environmental violations in Liberia cause by resources exploitation and other corporate activities; Environmental and natural resources legal reforms and strengthening of the rule of law in Liberia; Transitional justice initiative in post war Liberia to prevent the cultural of impunity; The Liberia open society initiative to ensure that access to timely and affordable information by means of judicial action to make the constitutional right to know principle particularly information affecting the lives of citizens accessible to citizens that want it ; Legal aid/services to impoverished communities who suffer the activities of state and non state actors
