BIOFUELS, AGRICULTURE AND CLIMATE CHANGE

Conference Papers & Reports
December, 2008

In the context of ever-increasing petroleum pricescombined with concerns about climate change, timing ofadoption and rate of diffusion of land-based fuels and backstoptechnologies for transportation use are examined in this paper.A global model of land allocation joined with a Hotellingmodel has been developed. Using this framework, effects ofclimate and energy policies on world agricultural and energymarkets have been explored. Further, their regional impactsare also analyzed.

Calculation model and computer simulation of strength of virtual model of design of carrying frames of secondary tillage set of new generation

Policy Papers & Briefs
December, 2009

In the presented paper there is presented description of discredited calculation model and course of calculations of design connected with project of secondary tillage set of new generation for simultaneous soil tillage and sowing with the use of universal drill. The design was elaborated with the use of computer system CAD-3D that allowed to build virtual solid models of machine. Strength calculations were carried out with the use of computer system of the high range group.

Ethiopia

Rangeland condition assessment was conducted in the Borana lowlands, southern Ethiopia to determine the current status and future trend of the grazing land with emphasis on comparing different functional land use units, called Kalo, Worra and Foora. An approach that integrated data from herbaceous and woody plants, soil and pastoralists' perceptions was followed. Density and canopy cover of woody plants were determined in 123 plots of 500m2.

Geological and geomorphological controls on groundwater occurrence in a hard rock region

India

Remote sensing and GIS tools have broadly helped hydrogeologists to delineate the groundwater prospective zones for watershed development and management. The origin, movement and existence of groundwater depends on several factors such as slope, drainage density, land use, geology, lineament density and geomorphology. Based on these, the mapping and identification of groundwater potential zones were carried out in a part of Nalgonda district, Telangana, India.

Ministry of the Environment is coordinating matters related to the unitéd Nation Framework Convention on Climate Change. National reporting of greenhouse gas inventories for land-use change and forestry category utilises forest inventory results with appropriate studies on biomass allocation and wood properties as well as national wood consumption statistics allowing to use country-specific values instead of overall default values provided in the Intergovernemental Panel on Climatic Change guidelines.
