Multiple social and environmental benefits of poplars and willows - Mini Review.CAB Reviews

Journal Articles & Books
December, 2013

Poplars and willows provide society with ecosystem services. These include direct economic benefits such as wood, fibre, fuelwood and other forest products. They also include environmental benefits improving the lives of people, such as through rehabilitation of degraded land, restoration of forest landscapes and mitigation of climate change. All of these services support rural livelihoods, enhance food security, alleviate poverty and contribute to sustainable land use and rural development, particularly in developing countries.

Assessment of Ecological Risk to Land Use in Liaoning Province Based on Global Climate Change

Journal Articles & Books
April, 2010
China

Based on the climatic data and other statistics of climatic data of 54 meteorological stations from 1956 to 2005 in Liangning Province, the annual and seasonal light, heat and water and the like major elements of climatic resources are diagnosed and analyzed by using the method of linear climate trend rate. The results show that warming trend is 0.25℃/10a , the precipitation decrease gradually by 2.2mm/a and the decreasing trend of solar radiation and hours of sunshine is not dramatic.

Land use and agricultural change dynamics in SAT watersheds of southern India

Southern Asia

Impact of dynamic land use and land cover changes on the livelihood of local communities and ecosystem services is a major concern. This is particularly evident in most dryland agricultural systems in South Asia. We study land use/land cover (LULC) changes over the last two decades in a watershed (9589 ha) located in semi-arid eco-region in South India (Anantapuram district) using Landsat and IRS imagery. We captured additional data through field observations and focused group discussions.

In this study, ecologically, economically and culturally suitable areas for some alternative tourism activities, which can be established in Isparta province, were determined using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools. In order to achieve this goal “Suitability Class Values” method was processed. This method provides GIS based determination of suitable areas for some popular alternative tourism activities and reveals natural and cultural factors determined by optimal spatial planning in terms of ecological, economic and cultural structure in the form of charts.

ЭКОНОМИЧЕСКАЯ ЭФФЕКТИВНОСТЬ АРЕНДНОГО ЗЕМЛЕПОЛЬЗОВАНИЯ В РЕГИОНАЛЬНОМ АПК

It is well known that land-use changes influence the hydrological cycle and that those changes in the hydrological cycle influence land use. The sophisticated spatial dynamic planning tools that have been developed in the last decades to support policy makers in the decision making process do not take into account the mutual feedbacks between land use and hydrology.

Study about the reality of the local reconstruction in tsunami affected area in Asahi City, Chiba Prefecture

Journal Articles & Books
March, 2016

Asahi city in Chiba prefecture was suffered extensive damages by tsunami in the Great East Japan Earthquake. Iioka area where was damaged by the largest tsunami in Asahi city is outside of City planning area. In this area, the form of 'local reconstruction' was taken. It didn't perform the regulation of land use except the development of a new evacuation routes and towers. The purpose of this study is to reveal how residents suffered damage in affected area by tsunami moved or reconstructed and what kind of conditions affect local reconstruction.
