This text consists of 6 articles. Article 1 establishes the concept of precinct forests defined as the inland and marine fisheries domain and reserved for fishery productivity. Article 2 subjects the issuing of the land property in the precinct forest to the approval by the Ministry of Agriculture. The conduct of activities such as clearing, chopping, reclaiming or burning is prohibited unless prior authorization of the Ministry of Agriculture has been granted (art. 3).

The Act provides for the conservation and efficient use of of land, forest and water resources in the Province of Alberta. It provides for the establishment of the Conservation and Utilization Committee to inform and recommend measures to the Lieutenant Governor in Council (LGC). Subject to approval by the LGC, the Committee may carry out recommended measures related to the conservation and utilization of irrigable, marginal and submarginal lands, rivers and streams or forestry and game areas.

The declared (sect. 3) objects of the Act are: ensuring effective and ecologically sustainable management of forest resources; promotion of a sustainable commercial timber industry, and; protection and conservation of forest resources, habitats and ecosystems including the maintenance of ecological processes and genetic diversity. The administration of matters affecting forests is entrusted to Commissioner of Forests appointed under section 6 and the Minister who shall be advised by the Solomon Forestry Board established under section 5.

Development and Planning (Tree Preservation Order) Regulations.

The Planning and Development in section 27 provides that the Minister may make tree preservation orders for the preservation of trees and woodlands. The Order for the preservation of any tree or group of trees shall be in Form 1, a woodland preservation order shall be in Form 2. The Minister shall serve a notice upon owners or occupants of the land affected prior to making an order. Regulations 4 to 7 provide for the possibility to make objections against an Order.

This Act, among other things, redefines "acts of development", amends provisions relative to community areas agreements and inserts various new sections. Section 72A provides for the designation of areas in development plans for purposes of protection of woodlands, beaches, arable lands, caves, and habitats, and other natural features. A development plan may appoint also "historic areas" under section 29A. The new section 31A provides for agreements relative to the development or use of land between the Minister and persons having an interest in the land in question.

Reindeer Husbandry Act (No. 848 of 1990).

The scope of this Act is to regulate reindeer breeding activities and the use of reindeer pastures. Also the counting of reindeer and marking of animals is provided for (Chapters 3 and 4). Chapter 6 concerns the compensation of damages to forests and cultivation. Chapter 7 provides for the protection of reindeers. Various measures placing restrictions on reindeer breeding may be decided upon by the Government pursuant to section 2 of the Act relative to Protection Forests (No. 196/22).
