This text consists of 6 articles. Article 1 establishes the concept of precinct forests defined as the inland and marine fisheries domain and reserved for fishery productivity. Article 2 subjects the issuing of the land property in the precinct forest to the approval by the Ministry of Agriculture. The conduct of activities such as clearing, chopping, reclaiming or burning is prohibited unless prior authorization of the Ministry of Agriculture has been granted (art. 3).

The Act provides for the conservation and efficient use of of land, forest and water resources in the Province of Alberta. It provides for the establishment of the Conservation and Utilization Committee to inform and recommend measures to the Lieutenant Governor in Council (LGC). The declared (sect. 3) objects of the Act are: ensuring effective and ecologically sustainable management of forest resources; promotion of a sustainable commercial timber industry, and; protection and conservation of forest resources, habitats and ecosystems including the maintenance of ecological processes and genetic diversity. This Act, among other things, redefines "acts of development", amends provisions relative to community areas agreements and inserts various new sections. Section 72A provides for the designation of areas in development plans for purposes of protection of woodlands, beaches, arable lands, caves, and habitats, and other natural features. A development plan may appoint also "historic areas" under section 29A. The new section 31A provides for agreements relative to the development or use of land between the Minister and persons having an interest in the land in question.

The Planning and Development in section 27 provides that the Minister may make tree preservation orders for the preservation of trees and woodlands. The Order for the preservation of any tree or group of trees shall be in Form 1, a woodland preservation order shall be in Form 2. The Minister shall serve a notice upon owners or occupants of the land affected prior to making an order. Regulations 4 to 7 provide for the possibility to make objections against an Order.
