Post-colonial land reforms in Uganda leave many issues unresolved, while evictions, land conflicts and dispossession remain common 

Land is an essential asset to the people of Uganda. With a rural population constituting over 83% of the total population and an economy dominated by smallholder farming, Uganda must prioritize responsible land governance to achieve sustainable development.

Land Portal Foundation Rwanda Country Portfolio provides comprehensive understanding of post-conflict land governance

 

With tumultuous colonial occupation, civil war and genocide that led to the death of an estimated 500,000 to 1,000,000 Tutsis in 1994, Rwandans historically endured massive displacements and human rights abuse. Thus, in the 21st century, the rectification of Rwanda’s previously untenable land governance system has become a major priority.

Public Debate on the Implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests (TGs[1]) in Europe and Central Asia

 

Today, different farmers’ organizations of the European Coordination of La Via Campesina (ECVC) from the EU and Central Asia[2] took part in a public debate on access to land at the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) in Brussels[3].
