The report gives a summary of a policy workshop that was held in December 2019 to discuss the complex issues related to access to and use of genetic resources for climate change adaptation. In particular, the workshop focussed on policies to support the further use in research and breeding, or possible ‘direct use in cultivation’ of materials that performed well in participatory trials supported by these projects.

This report summarizes the processes of developing the national fisheries and aquaculture policy in Nigeria in a 2-day consultation workshop with more than 63 stakeholders from the government ministries, nongovernmental and civil society organizations, research institutes, universities, and donors.

Taking advantage of Ghana’s gradual extension of cellphone towers in the early 2000s, we analyze the wealth effects of cellphone coverage expansion in a developing country setting using a difference-in-differences (event study) research design. We proxy local wealth using night-time light density over 1996–2016 and an asset ownership-based index from the 2000 and 2010 censuses. We find that cellphone coverage expansion significantly r raised wealth in Ghana. We then explore possible downstream effects of cellphone coverage expansion on electoral outcomes.

In many African countries south of the Sahara, farmers depend on the cultivation of vegetatively propagated crops (VPCs) for both consumption and commercial purposes. Yet yields for these crops remain at low levels due, in part, to seed market imperfections that constrain farmers' access to improved varieties and high-quality planting material.

Senegal, a country in West Africa and home to over 16 million people is highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, which interacts with existing environmental and socio-economic challenges. It is a water-scarce country. Decreasing rainfall frequent and intense droughts are exacerbating water-related impacts of climate change with vulnerable communities in rural areas bearing the highest burden of these impacts. Although agriculture is an important contributor to Senegal’s economy, it is largely rain-fed, thus increasing its vulnerability to the impacts of climate change.

Climate change has become a reality that requires mitigation and adaptation of climate change by devising appropriate measures and participatory approaches. Ethiopia is committed to setting policy frameworks and implementation strategies to mitigate and adapt to climate change and produce a climate change-resilient society. It is well understood that education and climate change have a reciprocal relationship, and education has a strong power for climate change adaptation and mitigation endeavours.

Ethiopia is located in the Horn of Africa within 3–15° N and 33–48° E, bordered by Eritrea to the north and northeast, Djibouti to the east, Sudan to the west, Kenya to the south, and Somalia to the south and east. In the last decade various countries, regions and cities from low-income to high-income economies have been developing Public Food Procurement (PFP) initiatives designed to use government purchasing power and regular demand for food as a policy instrument to promote sustainable development. These initiatives – often referred also as institutional food procurement - include school feeding or school meals programmes , as well as the purchase of food for public hospitals, prisons, universities, public building’s cafeterias, and other social programmes.

In a country of about 200 million people, the government has over the years constituted various initiatives to address the issue of unemployment, food security, and youth involvement in agriculture. However, the impact of these initiatives has been minimal due to the inconsistency in government policies, changes in government, inadequate implementation mechanism amongst others. This study, therefore, evaluated the impact of the N-power Agro Program on youth employment and income generation through agribusiness in Nigeria.
