The objectives of this Act include: to protect the unique environment of the province, to provide effective means for resolving conflicts respecting land use and to provide the opportunity for public participation in the planning process. It consists of 47 sections and is divided into seven Parts. Part II is dedicated to provincial planning and related processes, Part III to municipal planning, Part IV to the enforcement of the Act, Part V to appeals and Part VII covers major retail development.

The present Federal Law establishes legal basis for carrying out land use planning for the purpose of ensuring rational use of land and its protection, creation of favourable environment and improvement of landscape. The Directive aims at preventing illegal expropriation, misuse or abuse of land and mismanagement of land rent, by ordering and providing for an inventory of all organizations and individuals that have been assigned land by the State or are directly managing and using land; those same organizations or individuals are compelled to provide the competent Authorities with the total land area measurements, the use they are doing of that land and to comply with land lease payment.

Law for Non-Divided Agricultural Lands.

This Law concerns the management of non-divided agricultural land and the lands that have been refused in ownership or usage although granted under the Law No. 7501 of 1991. The Acts provides for land use planning and for actions to be taken in case of illegal occupation, abuse and damage of agricultural land (article 6). Under article 8, the Council of Ministers is empowered to approve all necessary regulations for the better implementation of this Act.

The present Regulation determines the modalities of ensuring protection of geodetic points. Geodetic point consists of special centre, external identification mark and external design represented by a ditch or bank that is the external boundaries of a geodetic point. Protection zone of a geodetic point is a plot of land on which it is situated and the strip of land of the width of 1 metre adjoining the external boundary of the geodetic point.
