This Act sets up the framework for the integrated management and protection of catchments in Victoria, it encourages community participation in the management of land and water resources, and creates a system of controls on noxious weeds and pest animals.Objectives of the Act include: to establish a framework for the integrated and coordinated management of catchments; to establish processes that can be used to assess the condition of the State's land and water resources and the effectiveness of land protection measures; and to establish processes to encourage and support participation of land holders, resource managers and other members of the community.The Act provides for the establishment of the Victorian Catchment Management Council and defines its internal organization. The Act also establishes Catchment Management Authorities for each catchment and land protection region.The Act further provides for: duties of the Secretary and land owners; catchment planning; land management notices; declaration of priority areas; extractive activities; control, and management of noxious weeds and pest animals; offences; etc.
