Improved activity data for accounting greenhouse gas emissions due to management of wetlands

Conference Papers & Reports
December, 2018
Latvia

The study represents results on remote sensing methods based evaluation of land use and land use changes in former and existing peat extraction areas in Latvia. The aim of the study is to elaborate activity data set for the National GHG inventory for the wetlands remaining wetlands for peat extraction. The study results provide sufficient data for application of the default emission factors for the peat extraction sites and flooded lands.

Outdoor recreation planning: a comprehensive approach to understanding use interaction.CAB Reviews

Journal Articles & Books
December, 2008

Growing demands for outdoor recreation have led to increased levels of crowding, displacement, competition and antagonism among alternative recreational uses. Recreational activities interact with differing degrees of compatibility resulting in various outcomes. In this review, we critique the relevant literature on recreation conflict, use compatibility and additivity with a focus on the interaction that takes place among alternative recreational uses.

Carbon accumulation and humification in soils of abandoned former agricultural lands in the hemiboreal zone

Conference Papers & Reports
December, 2015
Latvia

Abandonment of the agricultural land is a common, topical problem in many post-soviet countries, including Latvia. These changes impact nutrient cycling, soil properties. The results of the study of abandoned agricultural lands in the hemiboreal zone in Latvia validated the theory that after afforestation, in long term, soil accumulates organic carbon (Corg). During the first 30 years of abandonment, Corg content in mineral topsoil does not present a significant increase; it varies from 42 to 43 t haE-1.

Relations entre utilisations et caractéristiques géographiques des parcelles en système bovin de montagne

Journal Articles & Books
December, 2012

This study, which looked at 72 in traditional Salers system, shows there is a correlation between the use made of fields and the characteristics of these fields. The geographical characteristics and the use made of over 1,500 fields (cut and/or grazed fields) were described, mainly based on the statements made by farmers. Three groups of fields were identified (only cut fields, cut and grazed fields, only grazed fields) and in a second step, 15 types of fields uses were identified and described.
