Developed jointly with the FAO study The Right to Food and the Responsible Governance of Tenure: A dialogue towards implementation, this Information Brief offers a right to food perspective on a crucial governance matter for the implementation of the VGGT.

For rural women and men, land is often the most important household asset for supporting agricultural production and providing food security and nutrition. Evidence shows that secure land tenure is strongly associated with higher levels of investment and productivity in agriculture – and therefore with higher incomes and greater economic wellbeing. Secure land rights for women are often correlated with better outcomes for them and their families, including greater bargaining power at household and community levels, better child nutrition and lower levels of gender-based violence.

Esta guía técnica presenta un análisis de las dimensiones jurídicas de las Directrices voluntarias sobre la gobernanza responsable de la tenencia de la tierra, la pesca y los bosques en el contexto de la seguridad alimentaria nacional y su relación con el derecho internacional vinculante.

En la presente guía se aborda el registro de los derechos de tenencia haciendo especial hincapié en mejorar las formas existentes de registrar derechos. Si bien existen numerosos sistemas de registro en todo el mundo que ayudan a lograr la seguridad de la tenencia y brindar otras ventajas a los titulares de derechos de tenencia, también hay muchos sistemas que no funcionan bien y pueden ponerse obstáculos sin quererlo o de forma deliberada para evitar que las personas usen dichos sistemas.
