Land Acquisition Act 1950 (No. 9 of 1950).

The Act establishes the procedure to be followed by the competent authorities for the acquisition of land for public purpose. It includes, among other matters: investigations for selecting land to be carried out by a district officer appointed by the Minister; issue of notice of intended acquisition indicating the compensation to be paid for any damage caused during investigations; issue of notice of acquisition of land or servitude for a public purpose.

The Act aims at the conservation of soil resources for the prevention or mitigation of soil erosion and at the protection of land against damages by flood and drought. On the basis of surveys and investigations carried out by the Director of Agriculture for the purposes of ascertaining the nature and extent of soil erosion and of damages to land caused by floods and drought, the Minister may by Order published in the Gazette declare any area to be an erodible area.

In order to improve the condition of reservoirs of water the Collector, as defined in section 2, may serve a notice on the person having control over a tank which has fallen into disrepair or disuse requiring such person to carry out improvements of the tank as the Collector considers necessary (sect. 3). If improvements are not carried out to the satisfaction of the Collector he may declare the tank to be a derelict tank.

This Act is composed of 35 articles divided into eight Chapters. It aims at establishing the terms under which the creation, exercise, modification, transfer and termination of the right of land use and benefit operates. It regulates ownership of the land and public domain, the right of use and benefit of land, powers and responsibilities of the concerned public bodies. In particular, it defines obligations to be fulfilled by foreign or national entities, as well as fees to be paid in order to obtain a licence for land exploitation.

This Act establishes Sanitary Code in order to regulate environmental sector and food quality standards. Cette loi fixe les dispostions principales relatives au domaine public maritime, composé par le domaine public maritime naturel et par celui artificiel. Ce domaine doit être délimité par rapport aux propriétés riveraines; cette délimitation est confiée à une commission spéciale, dont la composition et fonctionnement seront fixés par décret, et sera effectuée selon les critères et les modalité prévus au chapite II de cette loi. Les terrains limitrophes au domaine public maritime sont gravés des servitudes prévues au chapitre III.
