Womankind Worldwide is a global women’s rights organisation working in solidarity and equal partnership with women’s rights organisations and movements to transform the lives of women.
Our vision is of a just world where the rights of all women are respected, valued and realised.
We work to support and strengthen women’s movements to change the world for women. Our small team is based in the UK and we work in partnership with women’s rights organisations and movements primarily in Africa and Asia. Our current focus countries are Ethiopia, Kenya, Nepal, Uganda and Zimbabwe.
We also advocate for governments and international agencies to protect and promote women’s rights through our policy and campaigns work.

Land – its access, control and ownership – lies at the heart of power relationships within Uganda. The struggle for land is deeply intertwined with the struggle for women’s rights. Women’s access to and control over resources and economic decision making is fundamental to the achievement of their rights. Despite some progress, inequality between women and men in ownership and control of land remains stark. Women’s rights organisations (WROs) in Uganda have identified changing patterns of land use as a major problem affecting women across the country.
Digging deep: The impact of Uganda’s land rush on women’s rights
Includes methodology and research sites; land, the law and women’s rights in Uganda; women’s rights – lost in the land rush; economic policy and land as a commodity; women’s rights activists – promoting women’s land rights; recommendations. Uganda’s eco-feminist movement is one of several working at the interface of environmental degradation, corporate human rights abuses and patriarchy, urgently building women’s campaigning and resistance skills.
Advocacy on agriculture, REDD+, land security, and indigenous land rights
General
This grant is made to support two of NGO Forum programs namely Environment, and Land and Livelihood program. Certain projects under the two programs are: 1. Environment program - Agriculture policies monitoring project - REDD+ policies monitoring project 2. Land and livelihood program - Land security project - Indigenous land rights project NGO Forum will be enabled to carry out advocacy at national level and policy influence in order to promote sustainable development through empowering network members and their target local communities to participate in policy dialogue, and monitoring policy monitoring. The two programs will strengthen capacity of network members and affected communities so that they can increase level of engagement with the government on a number of policies to ensure that the most marginalised groups including small scale farmers, and indigenous communities benefit from development.
