The Government of Ethiopia and more specifically, the Rural Land Administration and Use Directorate, (RLAUD) has identified land use planning as an important tool for the sustainable development of the country. Land use planning is vital for optimising the use of the land and for reconciling conflicts between different land uses. Land use planning should be carried out at different levels – from national to regional to local including community: these different levels should support and integrate with each other.

Up to 2.5 billion people depend on indigenous and community lands, which make up over 50 percent of the land on the planet; they legally own just one-fifth. The remaining land remains unprotected and vulnerable to land grabs from more powerful entities like governments and corporations. There is growing evidence of the vital role played by full legal ownership of land by indigenous peoples and local communities in preserving cultural diversity and in combating poverty and hunger, political instability and climate change.

Video del Foro de la Tierra 2016 llevado a cabo el 28 de octubre en Tegucigalpa bajo el tema "Gobernanza de la Tierra y el Territorio, Participación e Inclusión Social para América Latina y el Caribe".
El evento congregó 250 participantes vinculados al tema de la tierra y fue organizado por la International Land Coalition en colaboración con el el COCOCH, OUOT-UNAH, UTC y UMCAH y en asocio con Trocaire y FAO Honduras.
