The National Gender Policy is a multi-sectoral instrument applicable at the national level. The overarching goal of this policy is to mainstream gender equality and women’s empowerment concerns into the national development process in order to improve the social, legal, civic, political, economic and cultural conditions of the people of Ghana, particularly women and men, boys and girls.It provides broad objectives and policy commitments, as well as a detailed institutional framework for the operationalization of government‘s commitments to achieve gender equality and women‘s empowerment in its national vision of investing in people for better social and economic growth. The overall objectives of the policy are structured into the following commitments: 1) Women Empowerment and Livelihoods; 2) Women Rights and Access to Justice; 3) Women Leadership and Accountable Governance; 4) Economic Opportunities for Women; 5) Gender Roles and Relations. The guiding principles of this policy are human rights and sustainable development.The instrument aims to help eliminate hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition. The objectives of Commitment 1 include to accelerate efforts and commitments of government in empowering women (especially women with disabilities) to have safe and secure livelihood.The policy aims to enable more inclusive agricultural systems by eliminating disparities and fostering women empowerment in the agricultural sector and as regards land tenure. Policy Commitment 4 refers aims to improve women’s economic opportunities including engendering macro-economic and trade policies so that the basic and strategic needs of both men and women are addressed.
