This Act regulates inheritance in general and in particular of land. The Act consists of 8 Chapters: Definition of inheritance and procedures for processing inheritance (I); Rights and restrictions on inheriting (II); Procedure for transaction/giving and taking of Toshing (livelihood) (III); Procedure for transacting inheritance on separation of a member leaving (IV); Procedure for transacting inheritance of properties (V); Procedure for inheritance in case of divorce (VI); Procedure for making a last will and testament (VII); Procedure for inheriting the properties by members of the joint family heirs of a deceased person (VIII). Except for the properties over which a person has no right or which are being cultivated on share or contract cropping leases, all other properties, such as lands, cattle, etc., over which a person holds the rights and titles may be leased out for cultivation or bequeathed as an inheritance. If the land and estate received by inheritance is not registered in the Thram, it shall be declared to be Toshing (livelihood) and shall not be deemed to be land received by inheritance.
