The Social Consequences of Underestimation of Land Management Importance in Slovak Regional Policy

Journal Articles & Books
December, 2012
Slovakia

This work analyzes the importance of land management in Slovakia in a typically rural mountain country. It points out the importance of social function implemented in a region, especially during the economic crisis. The multiple analysis of variance (ANOVA) test confirmed the relationships between the share of agricultural and forest land and the number of people in material need who depend on state aid.

Landscape-ecological development conditions of town Bojnice

Slovakia

Nowadays it is necessary to process geographic data about landscape in a digital way. It is possible to analyse selected data and approach to decision and proposition-making process of landscaping based on analysis of these results. The LANDEP methodics provides us verified procedures of primary landscape structures assesment and landscaping. Digitalization of selected landscape elements increases processing efficiency, mainly for time reasons. Creation of complex landscape plans of cadastral areas at Slovakia should become a basic priority of every commune.

We propose a flexible and adaptable framework to assist the quick design of models dealing with the durability of the extensive livestock systems at the territorial scale. This metamodel results from the collaborative design starting from MAS developed on 7 sites in Latin America, France and Senegal. It is composed of four packages: Agent, Community, Space and Vegetation-Herd. We illustrate these packages with examples extracted from the various models. The role of this tool is discussed in order to show its advantages and its limits

Analysis of purposes of use of real property in municipalities of Latvia

Conference Papers & Reports
December, 2016
Latvia

One of the cornerstones of sustainable use of land resources is the use of land resources for the identified needs. In every country it is needed to list the land according to the type of land use. Such function of land classification in Latvia is maintained by the classification of purpose of real property use. In a certain period of time needs of the specific purposes for which the land resources are used are changing, so the aim of this study is to research changes of areas of purpose of real property use in municipalities of Latvia.

Actual and perceived causes of flood risk: climate versus anthropogenic effects in a wet zone catchment in Sri Lanka

Journal Articles & Books
December, 2017
Sri Lanka

The Kalu Ganga Basin in Sri Lanka is generally flooded once a year. A network of low-lying lands acts as natural retention and storage that captures floodwater, minimizing damage. An increase in the flood frequency has been observed in recent years. It is commonly perceived that this increase is caused by a rise in the frequency and severity of ‘very wet’ precipitation events. We conclude that land-use changes may have played a larger role in generating floods.

Assessment of land use changes in Aşağıdere watershed in Bartın-Ulus

Policy Papers & Briefs
May, 2006
Turkey

In this study, land use changes between 1986-2001 in Bartın-Ulus-Asagıdere watershed area was determined. In order to determine the land use percentages in 1986, Forest Management plan has been taken into consideration. Land use data belonging to 2001 has been determined by making use of the observations in the study area and data obtained from Forest Management plan of the year 2001. Arcview 3.2 software programme were used to analyze, examine and evaluate the data.

Type of land use is a territory of land surface according to its natural characteristics and the current economic use of the land. In relation to the changing economic environment, land monitoring institutions are investigating and implementing methods for obtaining new data on land use pattern. With the development of technologies, research on innovative methods of land resource assessment is becoming more and more relevant, which improves and accelerates the process of determining the land use pattern within the territory.

Markov analysis of land use dynamics: A Case Study in Madagascar

Journal Articles & Books
December, 2014
Madagascar

We present a Markov model of a land-use dynamic along a forest corridor of Madagascar. A first approach by the maximum likelihood approach leads to a model with an absorbing state. We study the quasi-stationary distribution law of the model and the law of the hitting time of the absorbing state. According to experts, a transition not present in the data must be added to the model: this is not possible by the maximum likelihood method and we make of the Bayesian approach.

Farmland concentration, consolidation and the land market

Journal Articles & Books
September, 2013

This essay reviews the approaches taken by the Japanese agricultural economists on farmland concentration and consolidation. We critically discuss how scholars saw and understood the 'land market' and evaluate the achievement and limitations of empirical studies. We suggest sharing a more realistic image of land markets, evaluation of policies and programs, and designing institutions to facilitate farmland consolidations as important directions for further research. Close collaboration between case-studies and quantitative approaches would be fruitful.
