Specifically, the study assessed 1) the effect of WorldFish interventions on gender-equal access and
control over resources, technology, and information among smallholder farmers, including
productivity, and food security, 2) the effect of WorldFish projects on climate resilience among
smallholder fish farmers, and 3) the impact of WorldFish projects on gender equality and women’s
empowerment in aquaculture. To achieve the third (impact) objective, the evaluation tested the

Food insecurity and child malnutrition remain persistent problems in sub-Saharan Africa. Rice is a staple food for more than half of the world’s population. However, white rice is poor in micronutrients and records higher glycemic values compared to parboiled rice. An improved parboiling system called “Grain quality enhancer, Energy-efficient and durable Material” (GEM in short) allows the processing of quality rice with better physical and nutritional properties compared to traditional systems.

The framework presented here integrates CGIAR and AICCRA experience in gender and socially-inclusive approaches to reach women, youth and under-represented groups, to develop a model for scaling up climate resilient agriculture that integrates equality and empowerment.

AICCRA-Mali scaling vision is to ensure that by 2030, 1,000,000 farmers, including 35% women use the CSA and CIS interventions developed, validated, or scaled by the project to enhance the security of income, employment and food including nutrition in the face of climate change. The short-term objective is to enhance the yield income, food, and nutrition security of 250,000 farmers including 35% women in the face of climate variability and climate change by December 2023 by adopting innovative partnerships and inclusive business models to ensure sustainability.

On March 14th in Siramana and March 19th in Selingue, two workshops were held to enhance women's skills in climate smart agriculture technologies. The workshops focused on Smart-Valleys approach for water control in inland valleys, alternate wetting and drying for producing rice with less water and greenhouse gas emissions in irrigated systems, and improved access to input, information, and markets using multiple stakeholders' platforms.

The Call for Applications resulted in a total of 849 applicants, out of which 288 met the high-quality standards for prequalification. The accelerator program successfully attracted women-led or co-led agribusinesses, with 69% of applicants featuring at least one woman in the founding team. The majority of applicants (72%) indicated that they were targeting smallholder farmers in their business model, and 52% claimed to have a digital innovation, highlighting the potential for technology in transforming the food systems sector.

Climate change affects every aspect of the food system, including all nodes along agrifood value chains from production to consumption, the food environments in which people live, and outcomes, such as diets and livelihoods. Women and men often have specific roles and responsibilities within food systems, yet structural inequalities (formal and informal) limit women’s access to resources, services and agency. These inequalities affect the ways in which women and men experience and are affected by climate change.

A Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) approach is fundamental to agribusiness transformation in the Eastern and Southern Africa region. Work package 5 aims to bring about inclusive and scalable agribusiness innovations through targeted GESI support to UU ESA work packages 1-6. To achieve this, we produced this GESI framework on social, economic, political, and institutional barriers and opportunities to more inclusive agribusiness in the ESA region.

KEY MESSAGES
◼ Despite many available digital tools in the digital ecosystem, many neglect smallholders’ ranching. Also, they focus solely on performance indicators, lacking climate-informed agroecological features.
â—¼ Mitigation features are included only by performance assessment tools, although only by half of them.
â—¼ Adaptation features in digital tools include mitigation recommendations, access to pest and disease information or early warning, and product diversification.

Agriculture in India contributes close to 20% of GDP and employs 44% of the workforce. Of these agricultural workers, 55% are women, and this percentage is likely to increase as women have fewer opportunities than men to find non-farm jobs. On top of that, women face significantly more barriers and constraints in accessing natural resources such as water and land because – despite significant legal and social efforts – the land rights of women are not widely acknowledged.

This series of socio-legal reviews summarizes the legal and policy documents related to women’s land tenure in seven countries: Kyrgyzstan, Uganda, The Gambia, Ethiopia, Niger, Bangladesh, and Colombia. These synthesis documents, part of the IFAD Initiative on Women’s Resource Rights, are designed for researchers and policymakers seeking to improve women’s land and resource rights in these target countries.
