En Sudamérica los primeros cultivos transgénicos a nivel comercial se empezaron a sembrar en suelo argentino el año 1996 usando semillas de soya transgénica (Soya RR). Casi simultáneamente se introdujeron de manera ilegal en el Estado de Rio Grande do Sul en Brasil y desde allí pasaron a Paraguay y Bolivia.

Haiti enjoys a dynamic partnership with FAO, which has been present in the country since 1978. FAO interventions have focused on food security and nutrition through support to the formulation of agricultural policies and the implementation of development programmes. In recent years, cooperation has centred on emergency agricultural assistance, although there is now a definite return to development programmes. The emphasis is on agricultural value chains, watershed management and development, and resilience building in the face of climate change.

Secure tenure rights and control over land for women and men farmers are key to boosting smallholder productivity, rural development and food security. However, in many parts of the world, men and women have inadequate access to secure property rights over land. Women are particularly disadvantaged: even though they constitute on average 43 percent of the agricultural labour force in developing countries, women’s ownership of agricultural land remains significantly lower than that of men.

Geographical indication (GI) schemes can play a special role in promoting sustainable rural development, improving farm income and opening new export potential. Natural factors such as soil, climate and plant varieties play a major role in producing a unique product. Usually, GIs comprise knowledge and skills passed on from generation to generation, helping to protect local heritage. This report is a synthesis of the five national reviews of the legal and institutional frameworks in Armenia, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, the Republic of Moldova, and the Russian Federation.

The change of urbanized landscape in Vilnius district of the Republic of Lithuania

The aim of the research was to analyse the urbanized landscape change in Vilnius district. The study covers the period between the years 2009 and 2014. The study used to perform statistical, literary and comparative analysis, inventory, data systematization, graphic modelling and logical abstract methods. The results showed that during the analysed period the urbanized areas of agricultural land increased the most, these areas have increased by 593.26 hectares (30 percent of the total built-up area).
