The Land Portal at the World Bank Land Conference 2024

For over two decades, the World Bank Land Conference has been an important and necessary forum for the land sector, bringing together participants from governments, development partners, civil society, academia, and the private sector to showcase research, discuss issues and good practice, and inform policy dialogue. The Conference encourages cross-sectoral knowledge exchange and this year, the Land Portal team is eager to attend the relaunched Land Conference from May 13-17, 2024 in Washington, DC.

Le gouvernement a décidé, lors du conseil des ministres du 19 janvier, de suspendre à l’immédiat l’exploitation artisanale des polymétaux sur l’étendue du territoire national. Cette décision fait suite au désordre qui règne actuellement sur le site de la Société de recherche et d’exploitation minière (Soremi), basée à Mfouati, dans le département de la Bouenza.

NA passes Bill for effective conservation and management of natural resources

The National Assembly (NA) on June 24 adopted the Forest and Nature Conservation Bill of Bhutan 2021 with 38 ‘Yes’, and two “ No” votes and two abstained.

Chairperson of the Environment and Climate Change Committee, Gyem Dorji, said that the Act, which was enacted in 1995, was not amended for more than two decades.

“During these years, the forest department was guided by executive orders and notifications, which were incorporated into rules, regulations, and guidelines,” he said.

New blog series looks at navigating the challenges of land-based investment

International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED)  and the Land Portal are launching a new blog series on the governance of land-based investments in the Global South. The series will explore practical strategies and approaches adopted by rights defenders and others to address common challenges surrounding these investments.
