Annual Innovahub Meeting: Exchange of results and learnings between national and local agrifood actors in Guatemala and Honduras

December, 2022

Under the Latin American Regional initiative AgriLAC Resiliente, the establishment of Innovahubs in Guatemala and Honduras has been a pivotal focus. At year end, in each country intensive stakeholders' meetings were organized at the subnational level to foster participatory discussions and delineate key aspects on how to consolidate and mature the Innovahubs and its core activities. Rooted in a hub model approach, the Innovahubs aim to catalyze innovation by facilitating spaces for collaborative learning, adapting to local contexts, and promoting interactive knowledge acquisition.

Gender differentiated adaptation strategies considering climate risk perceptions, impacts and socio-technical conditions in Senegal’s dry regions

December, 2022
India

This study analyses the gender-differentiated farmers’ perception of climate risk and its impact, access to climate information, and adaptation strategies with the aim to develop gender responsive climate adaptation pathways in Senegal’s dry regions. Study used data collected from 514 farm households through primary survey between May and June 2022 covering Kaffrine, Louga, and Thies sub-regions and multiple communes, including 5% women headed households and 12% women respondents.

Gender equality and women’s empowerment in rural transformation: From evidence to public action

December, 2022
India

The slow, limited, and uneven progress on women’s empowerment and gender equality over the last decade clearly shows that rural transformation, with its focus on efficiency and productivity, is leaving women behind in addition to having negative impacts on the environment and nutrition. New inclusive models of rural transformation are called for. The study argues that treating gender equality and women’s empowerment as key in the process of rural transformation will lead to a more inclusive and resilient transformation of rural spaces.

HER+ Multidimensional Gender Norms Index in Agri-food Systems

December, 2022
India

Gender inequalities remain deeply entrenched in many agri-food systems (AFS), limiting the potential of women—especially those from agriculture-dependent communities—to be empowered and to build social and economic resilience to climate change challenges. The Harnessing Gender and Social Equality for Resilience in Agri-food Systems (HER+) initiative will generate learning and evidence on where and how to intervene at a deeper level to disrupt the foundations of inequality in AFS. This effort requires high-quality data.

The effects of addressing gender norms and access to resources on gender equality in climate-affected agrifood systems in Bangladesh

December, 2022
Bangladesh

In the face of transforming agri-food systems (AFS) and climate change, it is critical to uncover potential pathways through which gender equality and resilience of AFS can be simultaneously addressed. In this quasi-experimental impact study, we assess the effects of two interventions in Kishoreganj district in Bangladesh—a climate hotspot—on women’s empowerment, intrahousehold gender equality of climate resilient capacities and AFS outcomes.

Understanding gendered coping mechanisms of actors within cassava production in the face of prevailing climate change challenges in Tanzania

December, 2022
India

Prominent climate change events such as heavy rainfall, windstorms, heatwaves, and drought pose detrimental effects on the livelihoods and resilience of women and men actors in agri-food systems (AFS). This study explored the difference in coping mechanisms employed by women and men cassava smallholder farmers in the face of such climate change adversities.

Gender-sensitive nutrition training in Embu County in Kenya

Kenya

The Gender Equality Initiative (HER+) Work Package 2 (WP 2) - EMPOWER targets to co-identify and model diverse scenarios for bundling climate-smart technologies to empower women, men and youths to be partners and drivers of climate change solutions. HER+ WP2 aims to integrate social innovations in existing Ukama Ustawi initiative (UU) sites or what we are calling learning labs to contribute to climate change resilience and women’s empowerment.
