FAO has been operational in Sierra Leone since 1978. While the country has witnessed signs of development since the end of the decade-long civil war, the recent Ebola epidemic (2014-2016) has complicated this recovery process. FAO is currently focused on restoring livelihoods affected by the Ebola crisis and building human and institutional capacities to make communities more prepared and resilient to disasters.

Le Canada est de longue date un partenaire actif et généreux de la FAO, travaillant étroitement avec l’Organisation à l’appui d’un large éventail d’objectifs de sécurité alimentaire et de développement agricole. Parmi les thèmes prioritaires communs figurent la nutrition infantile et maternelle, les régimes fonciers et le renforcement de la résilience. La coopération récente entre le Canada et la FAO s’est particulièrement concentrée sur des interventions d’urgence dans des pays qui ont donné la priorité aux projets de réhabilitation de la FAO.

Over the past 20 years, FAO has played an active role in supporting Armenia’s national development plans and emergency projects aimed at increasing agricultural productivity and improving the country’s food security. The Organization has provided technical assistance ranging from developments in the agriculture sector to fighting transboundary animal diseases, natural resources management, land administration and forestry and fisheries interventions.

The Netherlands became an FAO member in 1945, and has since been a valuable resource partner on multiple FAO projects and programmes. The Netherlands shares FAO’s continued interest in developing programmes for the financial inclusion of family farmers, especially women, by treating them as entrepreneurs and promoting their access to better credit and resilience. The Netherlands is also one of FAO’s largest donors for locust control issues.

El año 2014 fue declarado oficialmente por la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas como “Año Internacional de la Agricultura Familiar” (AIAF), para poner de relieve el papel primordial que juegan los agricultores familiares en la mitigación del hambre y la pobreza, su contribución a la seguridad alimentaria y a la nutrición, la mejora de los medios de vida, la gestión de los recursos naturales, la protección del medio ambiente y la consecución del desarrollo sostenible, especialmente en zonas rurales.

This report provides an overview of about twenty bioeconomy strategies, at international , national and sub-national levels. It analyses how these strategies have addressed sustainability issues. The report also provides a brief discussion on approaches used to develop bioeconomy strategies. Finally, it also discusses the action plans of 10 action plans related to some of these strategies,and some comncluding remarks.

The first in a new series of biennial reports, this publication describes FAO priorities and activities in the Asia-Pacific region during 2002 and 2003. The introduction contains a succinct analysis of the main socio-economic developments affecting agriculture in the region. Other sections describe the challenges facing the region and present solutions in support of food security and poverty alleviation while protecting the region's natural resource base.

The partnership between Kazakhstan and FAO has been constantly evolving since the country became a member of the Organization in 1997. Kazakhstan has recently increased its emphasis on investments in agriculture, forestry and rural development, and aims to modernize the sector while transitioning to a green economy. FAO technical assistance has focused on the sustainable intensification of agricultural production, promoting conservation agriculture, organic farming and sustainable natural resource management, and featuring institutional development and capacity building.
