Thailand became a member of FAO in 1947 and a year later Bangkok was designated the provisional location for the FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific – a decision that was formally approved in 1953. FAO has worked continuously with the Royal Thai Government through the Office of the National FAO Committee and the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives. Over the last three decades, the country has contributed significantly to the Organization’s achievement of its mandate and has transitioned from being a recipient country to resource partner.

Qatar joined FAO in 1971. Over the years, FAO assistance has aimed to improve the country’s management and conservation of natural resources, including technological and institutional development to enable sustainable increases in agricultural and fisheries productivity. The production of safe and nutritious food, together with support to rural livelihoods have also been key features of cooperation.

The Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe has partnered with FAO since 1975. Recent cooperation has included support to food and agriculture-related policies and legislative frameworks as well as a wide variety of regional and national development projects in areas such as fishery technologies and marketing, governance of tenure, response to soaring food prices, and improved agricultural and livestock production. Support to resource mobilization is another key feature of FAO assistance to the country.

Revised World Soil Charter

The first World Soil Charter (WSC) was conceived and formulated, negotiated and adopted by the FAO member countries in the 1981 FAO Conference. It was a major normative instrument agreed by member states, and that the Global Soil Partnership (GSP) was duty-bound to promote its principles. The challenges faced by the world have become more evident and severe in the intervening three decades.

The economic contributions of forests in Eastern African countries have not received the desired attention in terms of policy and budgetary allocation needed for sustained growth of these forests. This, among other reasons, has led to the reduction of forest zones and an increase in the import of forest-related products, resulting in dwindling foreign currency reserves.

Más recientemente, las líneas de acción se han centrado en el apoyo institucional a la alimentación escolar y agricultura familiar, la implementación de mecanismos de adaptación al cambio climático y el fomento de la Cooperación Sur-Sur.

Since the Bosnia and Herzegovina joined FAO in 1993, the Organization has played an active role in the implementation of national agricultural and rural development plans. Technical assistance has focused on policy advice, capacity building and – more specifically – the inclusion of family farms in high-quality food value chains. A major feature of current cooperation concerns the country’s preparation for accession to the European Union.

الهدف الرئيسي من المبادئ التوجيهية هو مساعدة البلدان والمؤسسات وصانعي السياسات في تنمية وتنفيذ استراتيجية لضمان استدامة قطاع تربية الأحياء المائية وإدماج تربية الأحياء المائية مع القطاعات الأخرى ومساهمتها في التنمية الاجتماعية والاقتصادية. "إن نهج النظام الإيكولوجي في تربية الأحياء المائية هو إستراتيجية لإدماج النشاط داخل النظام الإيكولوجي الأوسع بحيث يشجع التنمية المستدامة والعدالة، وانتعاش النظم الاجتماعية-الإيكولوجية المترابطة" كونه إستراتيجية، نهج النظام الإيكولوجي في تربية الأحياء المائية ليس هو ما يتم إنما هو كيف يتم ذلك. مشاركة أصحاب المصلحة هي في قاعدة الإستراتيجية.

Hace más de tres décadas se abrió la primera oficina en Malabo para atender los temas de la FAO en Guinea Ecuatorial. El 20 de junio de 2013 se estableció oficialmente la Oficina de Enlace y Partenariado y se nombró al primer Representante de la FAO en el país.
