As a surveyor at LANDnet Uganda, Judith Atukunda supports research in various aspects of land governance including customary land administration and Large-Scale Land Based Investments. An uprising professional desirous of making a career as an all-round land expert with experience in multiple functions of land governance systems and policies.
Judith is very passionate about achieving sustainable development, both locally and globally, and is keen on redefining the use of open data as well as the application of earth observation technology in land management and administration.
Judith has been involved in creating and using geospatial data for humanitarian causes, has been involved in voluntary mapping with YouthMappers and currently as an active trainer and board member of OpenStreetMap Uganda a local NGO that promotes community mapping, generates map awareness, actively pledges open data sets and builds a network of enthusiastic mappers in Uganda.
Judith Atukunda is an alumnus of the Professional Learning Network a fellowship from the Netherlands Land Academy (LANDac) and her interest as a fellow lied in her experience working on data collection and analysis of Large-Scale Land Based Investments and their impact on customary land rights. She also holds a deep passion for youth involvement, leadership and participation as a mentor and former scholar of the Tertiary Education Scholarship Trust (TEST) for Africa and is part of the committee steering of the IGAD Youth and Land Program. She is also a Local Pathways Fellow 2023 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network – Youth Initiative.
Judith aims to leverage geospatial technology for land governance since land is at the center of any country’s development especially in Africa.
