The 2011 Asia Land Forum and Regional Assembly

More than 60 participants from over a dozen countries participated in the 2011 Asia Land Forum, organized by ILC Asia in collaboration with Asian NGO Coalition for Agrarian  Reform and Rural Development, Community Self-Reliance Centre, and the Government of Nepal, on 20 to 21 October 2011 at the Soaltee Crowne Plaza in Kathmandu, Nepal.  This year’s focus was inspired by the 2011 SAARC Summit theme, Building Bridges, leading to the title, Preserving our Gains in the Struggle for Land: Building Bridges in Addressing Commercialization, Climate Change and Food Security.

LEGEND publication explores the aims and performance of DFID land programmes

A new LEGEND publication explores the aims and performance of DFID land programmes, including its work on strengthening tenure security for women.


The LEGEND Knowledge Management team has recently published a Portfolio Overview that looks across 24 DFID land programmes. It looks at how programmes are designed, where they work, what they do and how they have performed. It looks at both the main programmes that work on land governance and those that work on land to achieve a broader set of objectives.


Ghana to lose over $3m project over land dispute

A longstanding land dispute which continues to brew raw tensions in the Bole district of the Northern region has threatened the survival of a $3,139,383 poverty alleviation project.

The project, Babator Irrigated Farming Hub, an initiative of the Africa Agriculture Development Company (AgDevCo) a social impact investor and project in Agriculture sector missioned to reduce poverty, hunger, under-nutrition and improve food security.

"Although some detailed exposés of India’s nefarious role in purchasing or leasing agricultural land in other countries — notably in Africa — have been surfacing in the last few years, the full picture of what some critics term a land grab and new form of colonialism has only emerged during the Rio+20 environmental meet in June. The Washington DC-based think tank, the Worldwatch Institute, released a report based on data put out by the Land Matrix project, a consortium of 45 NGOs, which has collated difficult-to-obtain information from investing and recipient countries.
