Beekeeping revives forests, land in Zimbabwe

From Zimbabwe, Nhau Mangirazi tells the story of how beekeeping revives forest in the Hurungwe district, published by The Standard. Apiculture not only preserves the forest from tobacco farming – the main cause of deforestation in the area – and serves as a bio-fence acting as a buffer zone between humans and wild animals, it also brings an extra source of income to the locals, many of the beneficiaries women. 

Tanzanian Government Resorts to Cattle Seizures to Further Restrict Livelihoods of Maasai Pastoralists

The government of Tanzania is further escalating the pressure on the Maasai to forcve them out of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area  by seizing their cattle. Once captured, the cattle are auctioned off and exported from the area, unless the owners manage to get it back by paying a ransom to the authorities.

Industrie minière : suspension de l’exploitation artisanale des polymétaux sur le territoire national

Le gouvernement a décidé, lors du conseil des ministres du 19 janvier, de suspendre à l’immédiat l’exploitation artisanale des polymétaux sur l’étendue du territoire national. Cette décision fait suite au désordre qui règne actuellement sur le site de la Société de recherche et d’exploitation minière (Soremi), basée à Mfouati, dans le département de la Bouenza.
