Nigeria’s agrifood system (AFS) diagnostic results
Nigeria’s AFS lacked transformation between 2009 and 2019
• Primary agriculture is larger than off-farm AFS and its share in total GDP did not fall
• Off-farm share of AgDP+ barely changed over time AFS growth has been mainly driven by domestic-market-oriented value chains
• Less-traded value chains dominated the AFS both in terms their size and contribution to AFS GDP growth
• Domestic consumption patterns (and changing diets) are therefore important drivers of agricultural transformation

This scoping study delves into the critical aspects of the coffee industry in Honduras, a major global coffee producer. It explores the significant growth in Honduran coffee production and productivity, while contrasting these achievements with rising environmental and social sustainability concerns. Key issues include the impact of climate change on coffee suitability, increasing rural poverty despite growing export values, and the challenges in maintaining consistent coffee quality and fair profit distribution along the supply chain.

In the UN many countries committed themselves to reduce FLW towards 20301. So-called national pathways are developed, written by governments, elaborating on how this will be established. In order to support and validate these efforts, FLW monitoring2 is required on national level. This is a complex task for LMIC, since it is difficult to get data from rural and remote areas. In addition, the variety in products, supply chain links (SCLs), climatic conditions (weather, water, soil) increases the workload of any monitoring approach dramatically.

A proliferation of irrigation infrastructure throughout the Mekong River has impacted the ability of certain fish species to migrate to fulfil their lifecycle. In response, fishways, a type of fish-friendly irrigation structure, have been developed to provide passage for these fish. In recent years, several guidelines documents providing guidance on fish-friendly irrigation structures and their construction have been published. The development process from guideline inception to publication is unclear, while their purpose, audience, and contribution to fishway practice are vague.

Cocoa is the economic backbone of Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana, making them the leading cocoa-producing countries in the world. However, cocoa farming has been a major driver of deforestation and landscape degradation in West Africa. Various stakeholders are striving for a zero-deforestation cocoa sector by implementing sustainable farming strategies and a more transparent supply chain. In the context of tracking cocoa sources and contributing to cocoa-driven deforestation monitoring, the demand for accurate and up-to-date maps of cocoa plantations is increasing.
