Secure tenure rights and equitable access to land, fisheries and forests are critical means of eradicating hunger and poverty, supporting sustainable development and enhancing the environment.
UN-Habitat and partners will organize a webinar this month that will provide a wide array of government officials and stakeholders with the knowledge and key messages on how to help women not only retain land rights but also promote their role in conflict resolution and peacebuilding in fragile societies.

Secure land tenure is a tool of empowerment. It leads to productive land investments, increased autonomy to make decisions over land by women, men and communities contributing to higher incomes. The co-relationship between secure land tenure and increased food production is central to tackle hunger.

The Committee on World Food Security (CFS) will organize a High-Level Virtual Special Event on Food Security and Nutrition, 13 - 15 October 2020. The session, in lieu of CFS 47 which has been rescheduled to 8 - 12 February 2021 in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, will seek to keep food security and nutrition front and centre on the global sustainable development agenda.
