Tembeka Ngcukaitobi, a prominent South African Advocate and author writing an Op-Ed in the Mail and Guardian on 8th January, provides in depth analysis of the failure by South Africa's ANC ruling party  to address land issues. He argues that "the backstory to the formation of the ANC (in 1912) was land... Yet the evidence since 1994 shows hesitation, timidity and indifference to the resolution of land".

A national validation workshop discussed the draft National Land Policy Document of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Kinshasa on 15–17 November 2021.

The workshop was part of a process that began in November 2018 at the Bukavu interprovincial forum to formulate a new national land policy. The Bukavu forum identified strategic options that were turned into a draft policy document in December 2018. This first draft was submitted to a series of consultations in all 26 provinces in the country with a wide range of stakeholders.

The Inter-Governmental Authority on Development is pushing for gender parity in land ownership in the region.

At a July 28 meeting in Nairobi, seven ministers from member states signed a document titled Regional Women's Land Rights Agenda, which will serve as the foundation for improving policies and the legal environment for gender equality on land ownership, and addressing cultural and religious practices that prevent women from owning land.

Prindex Global and leading think tank NCAER will announce a new initiative today at the India Land and Development Conference 2021 to enhance land and housing rights in India. The project will go state by state mapping government performance on land records against people’s perceptions of their rights to drive policy progress in the country.

Government has introduced the new securitised A2 Model Settlement Permit with advanced security features to curb fake offer letters.

This follows the emergence of land ownership disputes countrywide with people in some cases vying for occupation of farms using different offer letters.

Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Minister Dr Anxious Masuka yesterday said holders of valid old offer letters would be advised on where and when to collect their new securitised settlement permits.

An on-going aspiration in Niger since 1992, the Land Policy inspired by VGGT principles was finally adopted in Niger on 9 September 2021.
