The main objective of this paper is to provide a) a presentation of the diversity of land related conflicts in Africa, b) an analysis of underlying causes of conflicts and experiences in conflict resolution and, c) lessons learnt and best practices from the policy and legal responses and links with enhancement of land governance in the region.

Through case studies from Asia, Africa, eastern Europe and Latin America, this book by Manchester Metropolitan University’s Susie Jacobs presents an overview of global gender and agrarian reform experiences.  Recognising the widespread marginalisation of gender issues from policy and theoretical discussions of agrarian reform,  Jacobs attempts to highlight the profound implications that redistribution of land has for women and for gender relations.  The book compares land and agrarian reforms in which land has been redistributed collectively and to individual households.

The Community Land Rights Recognition Model (CLRR) sequences specific actions to be undertaken by the Government of Kenya for the recognition of community land rights as stipulated by Article 63 of
the Kenyan Constitution 2010. This proposed process is a result of many months of consultation between
a team of Ministry of Lands officials, the SECURE Project (funded by USAID and implemented by Tetra
Tech ARD), four targeted pilot communities in Lamu County, local administration, and other stakeholders.
