As a founding member of FAO, over the past 70 years Brazil has partnered with FAO to eradicate hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition and to improve rural livelihoods. Brazil is a leading partner in FAO´s South-South Cooperation Programme and plays an increasingly important role in the field of emergencies, where it is expected to become a key supporter of FAO’s efforts build resilient livelihoods in the face of threats and crises.

Land Tenure Working Paper 19. The present paper is written as part of the overall Voluntary Guidelines consultation and development process and is a contribution to the subsequent preparation of the Gender Technical Guide. It contextualises and defines gender for the Voluntary Guidelines, discusses what governance of tenure means from a gender perspective and identifies and analyses key issues and themes. It then summarises recommendations relevant to gender before drawing some conclusions for the development process of the Voluntary Guidelines.

Considerando la necesidad de implementar acciones que promuevan el manejo sostenible del suelo, principalmente en contextos donde la degradación constituye una amenaza que impacta negativamente a comunidades rurales, la FAO a través del Secretariado de la Alianza Mundial por el Suelo (AMS) estableció la Alianza Latinoamericana por el Suelo en el año 2012 en el marco del Congreso Latinoamericano de Suelos.

FAO has been operational in Sierra Leone since 1978. While the country has witnessed signs of development since the end of the decade-long civil war, the recent Ebola epidemic (2014-2016) has complicated this recovery process. FAO is currently focused on restoring livelihoods affected by the Ebola crisis and building human and institutional capacities to make communities more prepared and resilient to disasters.

Cooperation between Nauru and FAO has been ongoing since the Pacific Island Country joined the Organization in 2001. Over the past 14 years, FAO assistance has focused on supporting local food production to achieve improved health, food security and sustainable agricultural development. FAO interventions include strengthening of capacities in sustainable natural resource management, particularly in the face of climate change.

El año 2014 fue declarado oficialmente por la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas como “Año Internacional de la Agricultura Familiar” (AIAF), para poner de relieve el papel primordial que juegan los agricultores familiares en la mitigación del hambre y la pobreza, su contribución a la seguridad alimentaria y a la nutrición, la mejora de los medios de vida, la gestión de los recursos naturales, la protección del medio ambiente y la consecución del desarrollo sostenible, especialmente en zonas rurales.

Over the past 20 years, FAO has played an active role in supporting Armenia’s national development plans and emergency projects aimed at increasing agricultural productivity and improving the country’s food security. The Organization has provided technical assistance ranging from developments in the agriculture sector to fighting transboundary animal diseases, natural resources management, land administration and forestry and fisheries interventions.
