Land Tenure Working Paper 15. This publication brings to light the existing linkages between land tenure and the realization of the right to food. It points out that responsible governance of land requires the adoption of human rights-based approach in order to develop coherent and long term solutions to improve people’s livelihoods. The document presents the legal implications of the right to food at national level and provides a series of examples on the implementation of human rights principles and obligations into land tenure systems, policies, and institutional frameworks.

The State of Food and Agriculture 2008 explores the implications of the rapid recent growth in production of biofuels based on agricultural commodities. The boom in liquid biofuels has been largely induced by policies in developed countries, based on their expected positive contributions to climate-change mitigation, energy security and agricultural development.

This is the twenty-fourth issue of the above publication, a comprehensive and detailed compilation of statistics on farming, livestock, fishery, forestry and nutrition in Asia-Pacific countries for the decade 1996-2006. Statistics are listed separately for developing countries (including transition economies) and developed countries in the region. The publication uses mostly FAO statistics based on information provided by member countries. Included is a table reporting on the status of organic farming in the region and a section on country profiles.

The articles in this issue of Land Reform, Land Resettlement and Cooperatives reflect this breadth in a variety of ways. This reports examines the opportunities for new sources of funding to support the Ministry of Water and Forests in Morocco. The report examines the current flows of funds between the forestry sector, local communities and the ministry and shows how the ministry does not receive sufficient revenue to implement its forestry policies and programmes. It also demonstrates how some of the fiscal policies currently in place do little to support sustainable forest management.
