The purpose of the present Act is to ensure the respect of natural resources. This term “natural resources” means the renewable resources of Saskatchewan and includes: i) fish; ii) wildlife; iii) wild species; iv) forest products; v) resource lands and provincial forest lands; vi) ecological reserves; vii) other living components of ecosystems within resource lands, provincial forest lands and other lands managed by the department.

Private Managed Forest Land Act ([SBC 2003] Chapter 80).

The present Act applies to private managed forest land other than land that is in a tree farm licence area, a woodlot licence area or a community forest agreement area. Section 4 decrees that the Private Managed Forest Land Council is established as a corporation consisting of the members appointed under section 6. The object of the council is to encourage forest management practices on private managed forest land, taking into account the social, environmental and economic benefits of those practices.

This Ministerial Decree stipulates that national parkland may be leased for recreational activities in accordance with land legislation, legislation on protected areas and this Regulation. The following plots of land located within the boundaries of any national park may be leased: (a) areas of tourism; (b) areas of ecological education; and (c) recreational areas. Lease contracts must contain terms and conditions, location, purpose of use and authorized activities, and also a prohibition on subleasing the land.

La présente loi a pour buts d’exécuter la législation forestière fédérale, de désigner les autorités d’application et de fixer leurs compétences. Elle vise également: a) à favoriser une gestion optimale des forêts; b) à promouvoir l’utilisation du bois d’origine indigène; c) à assurer un traitement sylvicole adapté aux conditions naturelles et aux fonctions de la forêt.

This Regional Law establishes that forestry taxes and lease payments shall be collected for: (a) allotment of standing timber; (b) procurement of edible and non-edible non-timber products; (c) agro-forestry; (d) use of forest fund (public forest) for hunting management; and (e) recreational use of forests, including tourism, sport and culture. Forestry taxes shall include taxes for forest land management.

This regional law establishes the modalities of land use planning of urban land based upon coordination of public and private interests and conservation of urban forests and forest parks. Regional administration shall be competent in the field of mapping and modification of urban land boundaries. In the process of projecting of urban land areas shall be taken into consideration recreational use of urban forests and forest parks and increase of forest cover.

The scope of this Regional Law shall be management, conservation, protection and reproduction of forests located on urban land. Urban forests shall be registered within the boundaries of urban areas and shall be destined for recreation of the population and conservation of favourable environment. Forested urban land parcels of particular environmental protection, scientific, cultural and historic value can be classified as protected areas.

The scope of this Regional Law shall be conservation and improvement of environmental, protective and other beneficial qualities of urban forests. Urban forest shall not be included in state forest fund, but shall be classified as public forest managed by regional administration. Urban forest management must ensure: (a) ecosystem preservation; (b) improvement of forest species composition; (c) conservation of wild fauna and wild flora species; (d) combating pests and diseases; and (e) recreational use of forests.
