This project aims to promote technology innovation and entrepreneurship to mitigate climate change and combat land degradation in informal settlements and peri-urban areas

Over 552 million people live in West and Central Africa (WCA), the majority in rural areas, but with some of the highest growth rates of urbanization in the world (>4% annually). After years of steady progress in some of the countries, economic activity in 2020 was impacted by measures to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to the climate crisis and high unemployment rates[i].

Palestinian farmers in the West Bank mainly engage in low intensity agriculture. Despite great agricultural potential, the prospect of losing access to the land impacts negatively on the willingness of farmers to invest in sustainable agricultural intensification. Moreover, prior investments in agriculture could be under pressure when farmers do not have the documents to prove their tenure rights.

Women in particular are often unable to claim rights to the land they are using, importantly caused by discriminatory inheritance practices.

A $235,450 Bilateral grant from Johann Heinrich von Thünen-Institut to CIFOR for Forest Land-use and Ecosystem Service (ES) Restoration in Africa (FLESRA)

This programme will support the Addis Ababa City Administration (AACA) to implement the Sheger Project using a holistic approach of nesting integrated watershed management within the broader ambit of sustainable urban land use planning

This project will provide institutional strengthening to land reform initiatives, implementation of reparation policy and supporting youth and women voices at decision making at the Provincial level.
