The joint East Asia Pacific (EAP) and South Asia (SAR) Regional Workshop highlighted the importance of strengthening land tenure to achieve a sustainable and inclusive future. The event was part of the broader theme “Breaking Barriers: Access to Land and Poverty Reduction and Climate Resilience,” focusing on regional experiences and innovations in land management. The session opened with a presentation on Indonesia’s comprehensive and systematic approach to land registration, illustrating the benefits of secure land tenure for economic development and environmental sustainability. Following this, representatives from various EAP and SAR countries, including the Philippines, Lao PDR, South Korea, Punjab (Pakistan), and India, shared their experiences. Each presentation provided unique insights into how secure land rights contribute to poverty reduction, social inclusion, and climate resilience. These case studies highlighted the diverse strategies employed across the region, showcasing a mix of policy reforms, technological innovations, and community-driven approaches. The discussion concluded with reactions from experts from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Bhutan, who offered critical reflections on the applicability and challenges of these initiatives within different contexts. The session emphasized the need for continued collaboration and knowledge exchange among countries to enhance land tenure systems, drive sustainable development, and ensure that land governance remains inclusive and adaptable to regional needs.
