India: House passes land rights to slum dwellers Bill

BHUBANESWAR: Four bills including the much-awaited Odisha Land Rights to Slum Dwellers Bill, 2017 were passed in the Assembly on Wednesday.Introducing the Odisha Land Rights to Slum Dwellers Bill, 2017 in the Assembly, Housing and Urban Development Minister Niranjan Pujari said it is a historical decision of the State Government to provide land and housing units to the urban poor living in different slums. The Bill will provide land to slum dwellers residing in Municipalities and Notified Area Councils (NACs) of the State.


Mahama urges women to invest in agriculture

Former President John Dramani Mahama has encouraged women in Africa to fully take up agriculture as a means to enrich themselves, their families and achieve sustainable development for their countries.

Mr Mahama noted that women’s participation in agriculture is more critical as women in agricultural production in Africa are between 40 and 60 per cent.

Reform of land ownership laws ‘must speed up’

Land Degradation: Nigeria To Achieve Neutrality By 2030

Mr Aliyu Bananda, Director, Drought and Desertification Amelioration Department, Federal Ministry of Environment says the Federal Government is committed to achieving land degradation neutrality by 2030.


Bananda said this at a workshop on Endorsement of Nigeria Voluntary Target to Achieve Land Degradation Neutrality, (LDN) organised by the ministry in Abuja on Thursday.


He said that government set up some working committee on March 9, 2017 to work out a report aimed at achieving land degradation neutrality in the country by 2030.

Government of Uganda and UNDP sign financing agreement for new climate fund to restore wetlands and build community resilience

Wednesday, 23rd August, 2017, Kampala, Uganda - The Government of Uganda and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have today signed a financing agreement for the Green Climate Fund (GCF) project to restore degraded wetlands, improve ecosystems, strengthen climate information and early warning systems.
