How to Make a Barranco: Modeling Erosion and Land-Use in Mediterranean Landscapes
We use the hybrid modeling laboratory of the Mediterranean Landscape Dynamics (MedLanD) Project to simulate barranco incision in eastern Spain under different scenarios of natural and human environmental change. We carry out a series of modeling experiments set in the Rio Penaguila valley of northern Alicante Province. The MedLanD Modeling Laboratory (MML) is able to realistically simulate gullying and incision in a multi-dimensional, spatially explicit virtual landscape. We first compare erosion modeled in wooded and denuded landscapes in the absence of human land-use.

This document contains the proceedings of the technical workshop entitled “Expanding mariculture: technical, environmental, spatial and governance challenges”, held from 22 to 25 March 2010, in Orbetello, Italy, and organized by the Aquaculture Branch of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Department of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
Enhancing countries’ capacity to report to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change on greenhouse gas emissions for the Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use sector: Colombia
Colombia has submitted two national communications (NCs 2001, 2010) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), providing information on greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories, and measures to mitigate and facilitate adequate adaptation to climate change, among other information. In 2015, Colombia also presented its First Biennial Update Report (BUR), including the REDD+ technical annex. In 2010 and 2012, GHG emissions from the Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector contributed to respectively 58 % and 43% of the national GHG emissions.
Harmonized World Soil Database Version 1.1
The completion of this comprehensive harmonized soil information database will improve estimation of current and future land potential productivity, help identify land and water limitations, and enhance assessing risks of land degradation, particularly soil erosion. The HWSD contributes sound scientific knowledge for planning sustainable expansion of agricultural production and for guiding policies to address emerging land competition issues concerning food production, bio-energy demand and threats to biodiversity.
Guidelines on urban and peri-urban forestry
These guidelines are the result a consultative process that involved a large number of practitioners from both developed and developing countries. Two meetings were held in Glasgow and Delhi and a tentative outline was agreed upon. The guidelines are intended to provide a reference framework for decision makers and planners to adequately plan, design and manage the forest and trees in and around their cities.
