From 24 to 26 November 2020, the three organisations comprising the Life After Coal campaign, Earthlife Africa (Johannesburg), the Centre for Environmental Rights and groundWork, met virtually to develop a shared Open Agenda on the Just Transition.

The open agenda focuses on:

  • A new just energy system
  • Financing the traansition from fossil based fuels
  • Decommissioning, rehabiliation and restoration
  • New ways of living with climate impacts
  • The climate crisis as a health emergency
  • A restructured transport and communications system
  • Food and food sovereignty
  • Improved local service delivery and open democracy
  • Economic justice
  • Gender justice
  • Intergenerational justice with a focus on youth
  • A transition to decentralised  open democracy
