A patriarchal pattern of power dominates both inheritance and property in Jordan. This pattern affects women, but also the youth - which is much less studied. While the inheritance rights of women are formally enshrined in the constitution, in Islamic law (Sharia), female heirs continue to face social pressure to renounce their rights in favor of male heirs. Only one fourth of Jordanian women entitled to property inheritance receive it fully. Elder sons decide of the fate of the father, not always following the Sharia law.

As we move towards the second quarter of the 21st century, the international community is bound to reflect on the shared human values that hold us together: peace and prosperity, hope and renewal, consideration and gratitude, unity and connection, resilience and optimism, generosity and kindness, diversity and inclusion. These values highlight our collective spirit in a century that will test our species’ ability to adapt and innovate in building a common future.
Carbon projects often impact lands managed by communities with insecure or informal tenure rights, especially in Africa and Asia, where carbon markets are expanding rapidly. Nearly 80% of land managed by Indigenous Peoples and local communities in these regions lacks formal recognition.
A fully operational Article 6 offers countries a powerful tool to scale up mitigation efforts to achieve their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). If implemented right, Article 6 will help channel much-needed climate finance – both public and private - to developing countries, enabling meaningful investments in mitigation activities. That said, the process does not end here. While there will be no further Article 6 negotiations until 2028, significant work lies ahead for the Article 6.4 Supervisory Body in 2025.
Best practices around five thematic communities of practice were highlighted in Knowledge Streams, including cross-cutting themes such as climate resilience, gender inclusivity, and digitalization. The workshop included field excursions, presentations, exchange sessions, and discussions on mainstreaming practitioners' experiences into policy frameworks, thus fostering a strong international network for knowledge sharing and collaborative action.
The results are summarized in this communiqué in English.
The starting point for the Conference and Summit was the recognition that ongoing transitions in the name of climate change and clean energy are deeply unfair in multiple ways. Climate policies and so-called green investments place huge burdens on people and spaces in the Global South as well as on areas inhabited by marginalized populations in countries of the Global North. Their rights are put under pressure, safeguards are lacking or not enforced, and the room to defend their lands, forests, pastures, and territories is constrained.
