Liberia

En Liberia, las cuestiones relacionadas con la tierra y los recursos naturales están en el centro de la paz, la prosperidad y la reconstrucción.   Después de las guerras civiles (1989-1997, 1999-2003) -alimentadas en parte por los conflictos sobre los derechos a la tierra y los recursos naturales y financiadas con madera y diamantes- el país atravesó un largo período de reformas integrales que dieron lugar a la Ley de Derechos sobre la Tierra (Land Rights Act) de 2018. La nueva ley de tierras se celebra como un hito en toda la región, ya que promueve el acceso equitativo a la tierra y los recursos, la seguridad de la  tenencia, la inversión y el desarrollo.

En 2018, los miembros de la 54ª Legislatura aprobaron la tan esperada Ley de Derechos sobre la Tierra que promulgó la ley de reforma agraria pro-comunitaria más progresista del continente. Reconoce y protege la tenencia consuetudinaria de la tierra y los derechos de las mujeres a la misma.
