The IRD (Institut de recherche pour le développement) is a multidisciplinary research institute dedicated to working closely with partner countries on global development issues. Placed under the joint supervision of the French Ministry of Research and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International
Development, the IRD uses an original approach on development research and expertise throughout its international network in over 90 countries. The IRD aims at using its research and tools for the benefit of countries that make science and innovation the prime levers for development.

In march 2015 and the appointment of a new governance, the IRD established a newly restructured organization engaged in a global approach to development. Thanks to its scientific excellence and international cooperation model, the IRD is positioning itself in a globalized research context as a scientific leader dedicated to positioning research for development as a major tool for the new development agenda.

Final report of the Task Group on GBIF Data Fitness for Use in Agrobiodiversity

Reports & Research
Diciembre, 2016

Human wellbeing and food security in a changing climate depend on productive and

sustainable agriculture. For this, policies based on analyses and research results are vital to

establish conservation priorities of natural resources that underpin the enhancement of

sustainable food production. Therefore, data from agrobiodiversity and wider biodiversity sources

Reusing the NCBO BioPortal technology for agronomy to build AgroPortal

Conference Papers & Reports
Diciembre, 2016

Many vocabularies and ontologies are produced to represent and annotate agronomic data. By reusing the NCBO BioPortal technology, we have already designed and implemented an advanced prototype ontology repository for the agronomy domain. We plan to turn that prototype into a real service to the community. The AgroPortal project aims at reusing the scientific outcomes and experience of the biomedical domain in the context of plant, agronomic, food, environment (perhaps animal) sciences.

Farmer seed networks make a limited contribution to agriculture? Four common misconceptions

Journal Articles & Books
Diciembre, 2015

The importance of seed provisioning in food security and nutrition, agricultural development and rural livelihoods, and agrobiodiversity and germplasm conservation is well accepted by policy makers, practitioners and researchers. The role of farmer seed networks is less well understood and yet is central to debates on current issues ranging from seed sovereignty and rights for farmers to GMOs and the conservation of crop germplasm. In this paper we identify four common misconceptions regarding the nature and importance of farmer seed networks today.
