This Act aims at the conservation of hill lands, the prevention of soil erosion, and the control of siltation.The Ruler in Council or the Yang di-Pertuan in Council of a State may declare any area to be hill land for the purposes of this Act. Such an area shall be registered and various activities within hill land, including the cultivation of short term crops, are prohibited or restricted. Hill land may be cleared with permission of the Land Administrator as defined in section 2, for the purpose of cultivation and clearing of weeds.The Act further empowers the Ruler in Council or the Yang di-Pertuan in Council of a State to acquire hill land for purposes of preventing soil erosion. Owners of land on which the danger of landslides exists shall comply with notices served by the Land Administrator requiring them to undertake certain acts or prohibiting them.In addition, the Act provides for: powers of the Land Administrator to make orders or vary and revoke orders; appeal; penalties; etc.
