El 15 de diciembre de 2022, el equipo de gestión del conocimiento de LAND-at-scale organizó un seminario web sobre la seguridad de la tenencia de la tierra: ¿Sabemos lo que necesitamos saber? en el que se presentaron las conclusiones preliminares de un estudio sobre la seguridad de la tenencia elaborado por Guus van Westen y Jaap Zevenbergen. La presentación del estudio fue seguida de sesiones de trabajo sobre la seguridad de la tenencia y su relación con los derechos de la mujer a la tierra, el papel del Estado, los conflictos por la tierra y el desarrollo económico, facilitadas por expertos en tierras y panelistas que informaron al plenario sobre los debates con sus respectivas reflexiones sobre las conclusiones del estudio.

Colombia es un país joven. Uno de cada cuatro ciudadanos tiene entre 15 y 29 años y, sin embargo, rara vez se le presta un nivel de atención digno de su peso demográfico y, quizá más importante, de su potencial transformador.

Cosmas Milton Ochieng, an expert in natural resource governance and economic development in Africa, is the Director of the African Natural Resource Centre at the African Development Bank.

In collaboration with the African Union Commission and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the African Development Bank will host the 3rd Edition of the Conference on Land Policy in Africa in Abidjan from 25 to 29 November 2019.

In this interview, Ochieng shares key insights into why the conference matters for Africa.

I salute the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Government of Côte D’Ivoire and all partners for hosting and successfully organizing the 2019 Conference on Land Policy in Africa.

“This plot is not for sale” are the six words you will find, marked on a lot of properties and plots of land in Uganda. The words are meant to ward off quack land or property brokers and conmen. Most of the cases handled in courts in Uganda, and Kampala in particular, are fraud-related cases (like selling land while the true owners are away using counterfeit titles) and land transaction fraud (when fake land titles are obtained and sadly some officers in the land registry are involved).

In March, the Trump Administration released a new budget proposal that would cut funding to the Department of State and U.S. Agency for International Development by 28 percent. The proposal also reduces funding to the United Nations for ongoing climate change efforts.
