¿Qué es ser joven? ¿Existe una única manera de ser joven? estas se constituyen interrogantes centrales para el abordaje de lo juvenil.
En Sudamérica, la transición demográfica y el crecimiento de la población joven han despertado el interés de desarrollar estudios en torno a la juventud. Estos estudios son realizados desde diversas perspectivas y propósitos, y en la mayoría de los casos centralizados en lo urbano, invisibilizando así, a la juventud rural.

La investigación como un tejido de relaciones, complicidad y empatía

Land plays an important role in the economies of developing countries, and many theories connecting land inequality with different dimensions of economic development already exist. Even though efficacious land distribution allows societies to transition from poverty to a human capital-based developed economy, ongoing issues related to property rights, inequality, and the political economy of land distribution are unavoidable. The general objective of this paper is to explore the nexus between land distribution and economic development.

The planning of protected rural areas is usually defined by institutional decision-makers without considering the preferences of the local communities that live on the land, which frequently leads to conflicts in land management. This paper proposes a voting method based on the Borda count to rank the management goals of a protected rural area. The method was applied in a Spanish-Portuguese reserve called Iberian Plateau with the aim of collecting the preferences of institutional decision-makers (government and scientists) and rural landowners (farmers and businesspersons).

Sustainable rural development (with the development of social functions) is currently one of the basic objectives of the rural areas policy in Poland. The main purpose of this article is to determine the level of social development of rural areas and to examine whether the National Support Center for Agriculture (NSCA) activities (in the form of transferring land to communes for the implementation of social goals) have an impact on that development, and to what extent. In this article, an assessment of the social development level of rural areas using the Hellwig method was carried out.

O presente artigo procura examinar a equação “povo-ruralidade” no quadro da transição democrática portuguesa, tomando como corpo empírico as Campanhas de Dinamização Cultural e Acção Cívica do Movimento das Forças Armadas (1974-1975). Procurando contrariar a versão folclórica do país promovida pelo Estado Novo, os protagonistas desta iniciativa constroem um campo discursivo paradoxal, onde se entretecem conceitos como cultura, tradição, subdesenvolvimento, descentralização e cidadania

Duas posições opostas apresentam os trabalhadores agrícolas alentejanos ou como incapazes de participar em associações formais ou como “revolucionários naturais”. Partindo do caso de Baleizão, com particular referência à Reforma Agrária da década de 70, argumenta-se que ambas as perspectivas ignoram o pragmatismo associado a conjunturas específicas.

Este artigo estuda a procura do turismo em espaço rural (TER) em Portugal, tomando como referência dados recolhidos no território continental e, particularmente, em três aldeias. Conclui-se que a procura é composta por citadinos de classe média que se deslocam para o campo a fim de romper com o quotidiano e de obter uma experiência revigorante. O campo é para estes citadinos uma espécie de paraíso na terra, que integra muitas virtudes que se crêem inexistentes nos meios urbanos, como a tranquilidade, a natureza, a tradição e a autenticidade.
