Land tenure reform policy has been affected by many different types of decentralization, but the literature has rarely explicitly addressed the implications of this. The paper provides a review of how the issues of decentralization are linked to land tenure reform in theory and practice. Begins with clarifying some key terms, then looks at contending perspectives on decentralization and how these relate to the UNDP’s pillars of democratic governance.

The reform of land tenure institutions is now back on the national and global policy agendas. While at a certain level of generality the principle of gender equality in access to resources, including land, has been endorsed by a diverse range of policy actors, there are many tensions and ambiguities likely to obstruct women’s effective access to land and its contribution to decent livelihoods. There are important questions about liberalisation policies vis-a-vis land, given the well documented difficulties that low-income women in particular face in accessing land through markets.

This paper investigates the real financial consequences of investing in land with disputed tenure rights. It demonstrates that companies which ignore the issue of land tenure expose themselves to substantial, and in some cases extreme, risks. Using case study analysis, the paper connects ground-up financial thinking with empirical reality. In so doing, it makes a strong case for the need to integrate tenure-related risks more comprehensively into our financial architecture.

Recent UNRISD research finds that the new generation of land tenure reforms introduced in the 19990s is not necessarily more gender equitable than earlier efforts, even though women’s ability to gain independent access to land is increasingly on the statutes.

Members of rural communities in Namibia often lack a basic understanding of what their user rights and responsibilities are under the Communal Land Reform Act and are also unaware of their rights to object to a proposed land allocation or to appeal a decision once made. Este artículo se centra en la ocupación y apropiación de tierras en una región del sudeste de la provincia de Buenos Aires, que integraba en las primeras décadas del siglo XIX el llamado "nuevo sur": los partidos de Arenales y Ayacucho, entre 1823 y 1860. Comenzaremos por caracterizar el traspaso de estos territorios a particulares, el impacto de las distintas modalidades de transferencia y la evolución de la estructura de tenencia. Esto nos llevará a interrogarnos por los protagonistas de este proceso: ¿quiénes fueron los beneficiarios de este reparto?

En esta tesis de Maestría se analiza la existencia de diferencias en las evaluaciones campesinas e institucionales sobre el desarrollo rural en el caso de la Unión de Organizaciones Campesinas del Norte de Cotopaxi. Considero el término evaluación, tanto en relación a los campesinos como a los agentes institucionales, como la construcción de significados o sentidos, que realizan los individuos o grupos sociales a partir de su experiencia práctica y de su bagaje histórico.

El objetivo del artículo es analizar los motivos del alto monto del arrendamiento de la tierra en La Plata (Buenos Aires, Argentina), en relación con otras regiones hortícolas, a la vez de identificar las variables que hacen que dicho arrendamiento muestre importantes variaciones incluso en el interior de la capital bonaerense.
