Land Tenure Working Paper 8. This paper articulates the views and demands of marginalised groups regarding the tenure of land and other natural resources. It points out the importance of adopting human rights framework when developing Voluntary Guidelines. Such framework means addressing the unequal relationships of power and corruption within and behind prevailing land tenure structures. It makes the governance of tenure of land and other natural resources more accountable, transparent, democratic and participatory.

This Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) Manual is designed as a tool for project practitioners of a broad range of projects and programmes of any development organization, by providing information about the right to FPIC and how it can be implemented in six steps.

This guide is designed for indigenous fishing communities and for people in the development field working with indigenous fishing communities. Its objective is to provide guidance on impacts and benefits of the Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries (hereinafter the ‘Code’) from an indigenous peoples’ perspective.

Effective policy and legal advice requires a clear understanding of the gaps and discrepancies in the policies and legislation pertaining to gender and land. This paper introduces a Legal Assessment Tool (LAT) for gender-equitable land tenure, developed under the Gender and Land Rights Database (GLRD) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), for the purpose of providing prompt, targeted and effective policy and legal advice to countries working towards gender-equitable land tenure.

Esta guía sobre Arrendamiento de tierras agrícolas está diseñada para ofrecer información sobre los mecanismos de arrendamiento y hacerlo en un formato que pueda ser utilizado por las organizaciones de base que trabajan con pequeños agricultores y otros miembros de las comunidades rurales. Los mecanismos de arrendamiento equitativos y seguros que compaginan los intereses del arrendatario y los del propietario de la tierra pueden favorecer el acceso a la tierra de cultivo, mejorar la producción agrícola y facilitar el acceso a los alimentos.

Las Directrices son el primer instrumento exhaustivo de alcance mundial sobre la tenencia y su administración preparado mediante negociaciones intergubernamentales. En las Directrices se estipulan principios y normas internacionalmente aceptados que encauzan las prácticas responsables para el uso y control de la tierra, la pesca y los bosques.
