Land Claims and Self-Government Agreement among the Tlicho and the Government of the Northwest Territories and the Government of Canada.

The present Agreement is the first combined land, resources and self-government Agreement in the Northwest Territories. Canada, the Government of the Northwest Territories(GNWT) and the Tlicho are Parties to the Agreement. The Agreement provides the Tlicho with ownership of a single block of 39,000 square kilometres of land, including subsurface resources, adjacent to or surrounding the four Tlicho communities. The Agreement also provides for self-government. A regional Tlicho Government was created with law-making authority over Tlicho Citizens in their communities and on their lands.

Le présent décret réorganise la constitution et le fonctionnement du Comité pour la protection et la conservation de la nature, créé par le décret n° 59-168 du 30 décembre 1959.En effet, l'avis préalable de ce Comité est obligatoire pour toute action susceptible de modifier le milieu naturel et pour toutes questions relatives à la protection des sols, des ressources hydrologiques de la faune et de la flore; à la conservation et à l'utilisation rationnelle des ressources naturelles; et aux parcs nationaux et réserves de toute nature.

For the purpose of the present Act "Intergovernmental Agreement" means the Northwest Territories Intergovernmental Agreement on Lands and Resources Management between the Government of the Northwest Territories and the Aboriginal Parties that was made on February 27, 2014; and "Aboriginal Party" means the Gwich’in Tribal Council, Inuvialuit Regional Corporation, Northwest Territory Métis Nation, Sahtu Secretariat Inc., Tåîchô Government and any other Aboriginal Government that becomes a party to the Intergovernmental Agreement.

Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) affects more than 3.5 people in the developing world. More than half of pregnant women (56 percent) and 44 percent of nonpregnant women are anemic (ACC/SCN 2000). IDA contributes to approximately 20 percent of maternal deaths in Africa and Asia (Ross and Thomas 1996). In Africa alone, some 20,000 maternal deaths per year could be prevented with anemia treatment.

This study employs IFPRI’s IMPACT model to generate projections of global fi sh supply and demand. IMPACT covers the world in 115 model regions for a range of agricultural commodities, to which fi sh and fi sh products are added for this study. As is the case with most global modeling work, an important value that IMPACT brings to this study is an internally consistent framework for analyzing and organizing the underlying data.

Recent trends in agricultural growth and food security in Eastern and Central Africa (ECA) have been discouraging. With very low labor productivity, yields, and growth rates, agriculture is unable to keep up with population growth or achieve the type of pro-poor growth needed to reduce poverty dramatically.Yet agriculture accounts for about half of the region’s gross domestic product (GDP) and is the main source of livelihood for the majority of the population. Behind this gloomy picture, however, lies agriculture’s potential to be the engine for growth in ECA.
