The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations leads international efforts to defeat hunger. Serving both developed and developing countries, FAO acts as a neutral forum where all nations meet as equals to negotiate agreements and debate policy. FAO is also a source of knowledge and information. We help developing countries and countries in transition modernize and improve agriculture, forestry and fisheries practices and ensure good nutrition for all. Since our founding in 1945, we have focused special attention on developing rural areas, home to 70 percent of the world's poor and hungry people.

The family Nautilidae are found throughout tropical Asia Pacific region, but restricted to deep fore-reef slopes from 200–700 m in depth. Nautilus pompilius has the most widespread distribution, with other species having a more limited distribution.The low productivity of nautilids (late maturity, long lifespan, low fecundity and slow growth with no larval phase) and the major decline (70−90 percent) in fishery independent CPUE recorded at locations where fishing has occurred for greater than 10 years, was determined by the Panel as meeting the criteria for CITES Appendix II listing.
Jelutung (Dyera polyphylla) agroforestry on drained peatlands
Dyera polyphylla, which is locally known as jelutung, is a tree that produces latex. The latex is used for chewing gums, insulator, tube, and others. The wood is soft and bright colour, which can be used for pulp, plywood, pencil, wooden toy, and others. It naturally grows on peat swamp forests in Sumatra and Kalimantan (Indonesian part of Borneo). Along with fast deforestation, population of wild jelutung is decreasing. In the era of degraded peatland restoration, jelutung was promoted to be planted in reforestation and afforestation.

Clarion angelfish is distributed across Mexico's Revillagigedo archipelago and coasts of Baja California Sur. No decline in the area of species distribution has been noted.
Establishment of a Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) for Food and Agriculture
There is no world-wide common platform that stores and provides core data and information related to the assessment, monitoring and mapping of agri-food, environmental and water resources through indicators derived by the combination of remote sensing, geospatial anlysis, in-situ measurement and country reporting. The initiative aims to establish it.
