As Diretrizes Voluntárias sobre a Governança Responsável da Posse da Terra, das Pescas e das Florestas no Contexto da Segurança Alimentar Nacional mencionam explicitamente os pastores como utilizadores das Diretrizes e como alvos de capacitação. Apesar da marginalização histórica e muitas vezes contínua dos pastores, este guia técnico foi desenvolvido em resposta às oportunidades emergentes para apoiar os pastores e para reforçar os seus direitos à terra e aos recursos.

Afghanistan has an area of 379,100 Sq. km classified as agriculture land. But the country is generally deficit in food production. So the availability of reliable information on natural resources and the agricultural monitoring are urgently necessary for the adoption of new strategies about rural land use planning and land management. This is the way for reducing hunger and poverty among population and to assure sustainable food and feed production for future generations. Rice is one of the three main food security crop of Afghanistan.

A methodology was selected so as to provide a consistent and robust approach to using GIS for data capture, interpretation, storage and analysis. This included the capturing of new coastal and terrestrial data along the Red Sea coastline in the timescale of the project and at an appropriate scale to carry out the site selection study. All spatial datasets are stored in the GIS at JFRC and are used where appropriate as part of the site selection and for the identification of potential areas for development.
